Spotify started to bet big on the global podcasting market last year with its exclusive deal with some of the world’s most famous podcasters. And now, after seeing a bit of growth and potential in the category of podcasting.

Spotify wants to make even bigger bets by stepping and expanding into the category of video podcasting, which for now is only allowed to an exclusive group of famous and semi-famous podcasters on its platform. But this is going to change with Spotify’s recent announcement.

This is something that I have been wanting and expecting Spotify to do since last year. In fact, I want Spotify to take a risk and kind of get in a toe-to-toe competition with Youtube at least in the video podcasting space for now. Even though I would want Spotify to go beyond that.

And the reason why I think so is because of how strict and senseless the censorship and video take-down rules have become on Youtube. Especially in the past four-plus years.

The very recent announcement of Spotify today allows the podcast creators to start publishing their video version of the content to its platform through Spotify’s podcast creation tool called “Anchor”.

This is honestly a commendable move from Spotify since it's only going to help the company expand and grow on a scale like never before. It would have been great if Spotify could have done this a lot earlier itself. But still, better late than never.

In my honest opinion, Youtube needs to understand that there are alternatives to it in some way, shape, or form. Irrespective of how capable the alternative is, in this case, I think it's collectively better for freedom of expression of the online streaming world.

Now coming back to the topic of this post, this particular video podcasting feature announcement of Spotify is only going to be rolled out on a step-by-step basis such as country, region, and geography. Because of this, the interested podcast creators who want to push their video content on Spotify need to officially sign up for a waitlist (for time being).

And, I think it's totally fine to do its this way. If the reason behind doing it this way is only because of the secure scaling of resource infrastructure that is needed to power this video podcasting platform. But if there are any other reasons than this I will be very much disappointed and would not mind expressing my thoughts about it.

Spotify’s growth and success, in my opinion, are in a way the need of the hour to keep platforms like Youtube and Twitter in check. For that reason alone I want this video podcasting endeavor of Spotify to be as big of a hit as its previous bet of the audio podcasting category.

Let’s hope for nothing but the best.

Thank you for reading this, and God Bless Everyone.
