Ginkgo Bioworks: Complete funding report as of October 2021
Ginkgo Bioworks is a self-proclaimed Organism Company that boldly claims to have the ability to program biological cells to make everything from food to materials to therapeutics. It’s honestly a very interesting business/company in the field of Bio-Engineering among all the others that I have come across up until now.
Hence I thought of giving a breakdown of their financial backing details from very first Venture capital funding to Post-IPO Equity round as of September 2021.
But before that let me add an Intro about them below to start with.
Founded back in the year 2008, Ginkgo Bioworks is a developer and designer of Bio-Engineering products on multiple fronts. It is notable that they are based and Headquartered in Greater Boston Area, East Coast, New England.
Official About Snippet: Ginkgo Bioworks designs, engineers, develops, tests, and licenses organisms. It discovers molecules in flavors, sweeteners, cosmetic ingredients, crop treatments, and pharmaceuticals.
Gingko Bioworks also provides probiotic bacteria to protect the body from dangerous infections, and it generates libraries of molecules. It serves cultured ingredients, carbon mitigation, probiotics, and natural product discovery markets. End of the snippet.

In total, Ginkgo Bioworks has raised a total funding amount of $1.6 billion U.S. dollars as of September 2021.
As crazy as this funding data of Gingko Bioworks may look, this is the kind of capital that is needed just to kickstart and stabilize a Bio-Engineering business/company. And, it's mainly because of how costly and difficult it is to work and innovate in the Bio-industry.
I, for once, can only appreciate companies like Gingko Bioworks for their existence while encouraging more entrepreneurs to enter this Bio space for building a better world.
I also think that it's high time we as humans start to focus on Bio-Engineering innovations as much as we do for the Information Technology Breakthroughs.
Thank you for reading this, and God Bless Everyone.
