Google in a way invented the modern targeted advertising on the internet as we know, see, and use it today. But, if there is one company on the face of the earth that could go toe to toe with Google and kind of crush it into nothing, then it is none other than the world’s most marketable platform that humans have ever seen “Facebook”. And, when I say this, I actually mean every single bit of it, because, it's so true.

The way I know it is true is actually by looking at the miraculous growth of Facebook’s annual revenue in the past decade. The numbers are so spell-binding. It’s like a piece of art or something to look at. No wonder that Facebook’s early investors both in the public and private markets are some of the happiest people on earth.

Now, down below is the graphical representation of Facebook’s annual revenue growth from 2009 to 2020. Note, the numbers are in million U.S. dollars.

Facebook: Annual revenue report from 2009 to 2020

As you can see for yourself, the company has really grown as a business into something that nobody could have even imagined in their best possible dream.

Facebook has gone from only making $700 million U.S. dollars in annual revenue in the year 2009 to a whopping $86 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.

The revenue growth in just a decade itself is so breathtakingly spectacular.

Believe me, both Silicon Valley and Wall Street love businesses like this.

And, all of it, I mean all of this revenue that you see in the graph above has come from Facebook’s core business of nothing but Advertising. The kind of dominance that Facebook has over the digital advertising industry is even scary to companies like Google and Youtube. By the way, that’s exactly what has happened too. Facebook’s growth has come at the cost of Google’s revenue.

In a way, Google’s failure to build a successful social media platform as an alternative to Facebook around the years 2010, 11, and 12 have made it lose this much money on the table of digital advertising space.

Kudos to Mr. Zuckerberg for accidentally building the world’s greatest marketing tool that is basically nothing less than the pinnacle of social engineering.

Thank you for reading this, and God Bless Everyone.
