Alphabet: Annual revenue from 2011 to 2020
When I first came to know about the formation and creation of Alphabet by Google. I was both surprised and excited. I was surprised because that was the first time in my life I was seeing such a restructuring of a business. And I was excited because I knew at that very moment it is going to be a hit. Simply because of how it will help Google look at all of its subsidiaries and make them more efficient for better results and revenues in the upcoming years.
In this blog post, I want to discuss the annual revenue data set of Alphabet for the past decade. But before that here is a must-read intro about the business entity called “Alphabet”.
Wikipedia snippet about Alphabet: Alphabet Inc. is an American multinational technology conglomerate holding company headquartered in Mountain View, California. It was created through a restructuring of Google on October 2, 2015, and became the parent company of Google and several former Google subsidiaries. The two co-founders of Google remained as controlling shareholders, board members, and employees at Alphabet. Alphabet is the world’s third-largest technology company by revenue and one of the world’s most valuable companies.
The establishment of Alphabet Inc. was prompted by a desire to make the core Google business “cleaner and more accountable” while allowing greater autonomy to group companies that operate in businesses other than Internet services. Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced their resignation from their executive posts in December 2019, with the CEO role to be filled by Sundar Pichai, also the CEO of Google. Page and Brin remain co-founders, employees, board members, and controlling shareholders of Alphabet Inc. End of the snippet.
And back to the topic of this blog post, here are the numbers that I care about. Note: The numbers given below are in millions of U.S. dollars.
As you can see in the above given graphical graph the annual revenue of the company has gone up for basically ten straight years in a row. Now that’s what I call an example of the best possible business performance on earth.
If you look a little closer at the above-given graph you can see the drastic change and increase in annual revenue after the year 2015. That is when Alphabet was created to restructure Google and its businesses.
The annual revenue of Google was a mere $37.9 billion U.S. dollars in the year 2011 and from there it reached a whopping $182.5 billion U.S. dollars as of 2020 in just one decade.
These numbers are unbelievable even after seeing them on the balance sheet.
Based on these annual revenue numbers the logical basis to form Alphabet seems to have given really unexpected business benefits to Google and its subsidiary organizations.
I have always loved Google and everything it has done up until now. I wish them the best for all their future business rivalries and hope they will be successful for decades to come.
